Are You Anxious, Stressed or Depressed?

ANXIETY

Anxiety is something everyone experiences from time to time. Perhaps when you are about to sit an exam, take a driving test, going into hospital, attending an interview or doing a presentation. You may worry about what will happen but sometimes this anxiety can be useful, making you more alert or enhance your performance. If everything goes well, your anxiety will go away. However sometimes the anxiety or worry can affect your sleep, appetite and ability to concentrate and will have a negative effect on your performance. I can work with you to remove the anxiety and improve your performance.

STRESS

Stress is a normal physical response to something that makes you feel threatened; it’s the body’s way of protecting you. When you sense danger – whether it’s real or imagined – the body’s defences trigger the process known as the “fight-or-flight” reaction, or the stress response. It’s important to remember that what triggers your ‘stress response’ is not the same as anyone else. The stress response also helps you rise to meet challenges.

However sometimes stress stops being helpful and starts causing major damage to your health, your mood, your productivity, your relationships, and your quality of life. That’s the time to do something about it. You may notice changes in the way you behave, feel or react to situations. If you are feeling unwell or out of control please call to discuss how I can help you get rid of the unhealthy stress.

An A level student came to me because she was finding it difficult to settle down to revision. She kept procrastinating, which was unlike her. She was stressing she wouldn’t be able to do it or do well in the exam. I used hypnotherapy to help her relax, focus on doing at least 2 hours revision per day and instilled into her mind that she would remember the facts. She did become more focussed and got her 3 A grades and went to the University she wanted.

DEPRESSION

After failing her driving test four times a 20 year old woman asked me to help. The previous failures were adding to her anxiety and making each test feel worse than the last. After just two sessions she passed her test and now drives with confidence.

Depression is different. If you are affected by depression, you are not ‘just’ sad or upset. You have an intense feeling of persistent sadness; helplessness and hopelessness are accompanied by physical effects such as sleeplessness, or feeling constantly tired, a loss of energy or motivation to do anything, or actual physical aches and pains. I can help you feel better, look at what is causing your depression and make the changes safely and easily at your pace so you can be free to do what you want to do.

POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (PTSD)

(PTSD) is a severe anxiety disorder that can develop after exposure to any event that results in psychological trauma. There is a common belief that only people who have been in combat or involved or witness a particularly violent event can suffer from PTSD. However this is not true. You can have traumatic responses to even the smallest event, a car accident, and death of someone close or perhaps a trip to the dentist. I can help you let go of the emotion attached to the event so you can feel better and get on with your life.
